2008.gif // recovered from the old web

The internet used to be a place, not a feed.

Before every interaction became a metric. Before every image became content. Before the web learned to watch us back.

We remember a different network.

01Before feeds.
02Before algorithms.
03Before engagement.
04Before AI slop.
05Before everything was content.

The old web was not clean. It was anonymous, obsessive, technical, hostile, funny, paranoid, creative and frequently incomprehensible. Forums became cities. Links became tunnels. A GIF could survive after the person, server and context around it disappeared.
